Honestly think Apple should buy out Aptera and take the wheel here. They have the money. Aptera has the designers and engineers. Instead of "at least" 2025 for an overpriced Apple Car, we could see the Aptera in 2 years. Building cars takes time and money - just look at how long it took Arcimoto to get just the first few out the door. People have been waiting years for their order. With 7,000 orders in the pipeline here, by my estimate, how long will it take to get yours? With $4m in the bank and a very generous $20,000/car to produce, that's only 200 cars. If you ordered late in the game - like I probably did - it could be 5 years before I see this in my driveway, at least, and that's with a decent ramp up in funding along the way.
No... we need a big, fat, cash infusion of at least $150m, or we're honestly never going to see this car built for the vast majority of us. Not to be Negative Nedster here, but... Unless someone can convince me that there's a pot of gold that no one knows about that's on the way into the coffers, I remain skeptical - AND, actually an investor. I want this to happen more than my own common sense says it will, when there's no serious discussion about getting real with funding, or how this funding is going to happen. What is being considered? How hard is everyone working on getting MAJOR funding, to at least build these 7,000 orders within the promised year or two? What is The Plan on how to meet these orders in a timely fashion? Weefund tiny amounts isn't going to cut it. $4m rounds 2, 3, or even 4 times a year in funding isn't going to cut it. The owners of Aptera have made bold statements, like cars will be delivered at the end of this year and next. How many this year and how many next? When will ALL current orders be deliverable? If you're order #7,000 when will you see your car in your driveway - realistically? In other words, what is the production capacity and how long does it take to ramp up? And... where is the money going to come from to build them?
That's ok, let them. I am not looking for a full size electric car or I would buy a Tesla!
