Tesla doesn't really know how to make cars at a profit but Elon Musk, in spite of being an engineer, is at heart a financial guy. Tesla is profitable because they sell carbon credits. But they do have a lot of technology that they could sell profitably. This is why they might want to make a deal with Aptera ( or almost any other EV maker).
Tesla has made mention that they would only license autopilot and supply parts to another automaker that meets specific criteria. I am assuming that means a car company that doesn't make gas powered cars is extremely safe and is not a direct competition. Sounds like aptera to me.
