I am ready to either invest or pre-order, depending on how the referral system works. I'm very interested in referring my friends, but I'm very concerned about the following scenario:
I refer 26 friends (because I go to an engineering school and everybody would love to have a car that had "matlab" in the commercial)
Car doesn't release on time, comes out in 2022, or 2023 instead
friends get sick of waiting, cancel their reservations
I lose my referrals and don't get a discount anymore.
I saw that Aptera has already awarded a 'free car' (obv not delivered for a little while) to a user here on the forum, so I presume that reservations probably have some bearing on getting the referral. Do you all know when you get the Aptera point? Do you know what happens should someone cancel their reservation?
Until the reservations are finalized ( paid for) you only hold the credit towards your free base model Aptera...as stated on the website... Is my understanding
So YES if canceled....you lose the credit
@George Roush Working through your final paragraph - when you make a reservation you get a referral link that you can then provide to others. If you use someone's referral, you get $30 off the $100 reservation price and then you get points for every person who uses YOUR referral to place a reservation. As @Len said, any points you earn are tallied and then applied to your reserved vehicle at the time of purchase. If someone uses your referral code to make a reservation but later cancels that reservation, you lose the point.
As to the timeline, only the first 900 Paradigm and Paradigm+ models are scheduled for Q4 2121 delivery - so, with more than 4000 reservations, it might very well be '22 or '23 before volume production begins - if other start-up vehicle manufacturers can be used as models...
And remember, with the referral discount, $70 isn't a great deal of money "set and forget" - so I'm guessing many might not cancel, especially knowing that it's refundable right up until the moment the purchase agreement is signed!
@George Roush PS - if you haven't yet made a reservation, you're more than welcome to use my referral code! 😁
I, too, am unclear in another way. Let's say I'm order number 10001 and I've got a referral to a friend who is order number 12000. I'm the first vehicle off the line (assuming I ordered the Paradigm-400mi). Since my friend's vehicle is order 2000, would I have to wait for a year (?plus) to get the credit when he completes his purchase? And what happens if I pay for my vehicle in full cash/check at the time of purchase (there's no financed amount to credit the referral to)?
Why overthink this? When/if your referrals buy it you get the credit. Not before. Before they finalize their own purchase you have a POTENTIAL credit.
I had not even heard about the referral system. I have told many about the aptera.
@jstackeaa I understand the system works best if you refer directly to email addresses using the "Rewards" button on the lower left of this screen.
