This is exactly what an EV should be - ultra efficient unlike the inefficient bloated SUV based monstrosities we have now. The problem is cost - how many people are going to pay $40k for a 2 seater no matter how efficient? To get cost down a smaller battery pack is essential. This is essentially a commuter car. How many commuters go 1000mi a day? A low cost base model with 100mi would make a lot of sense.
The Aptera Forum
I think that is the plan, more or less. They will offer several different battery pack capacities, and that should appeal to people who have different needs.
Neil is correct from what I have been reading and seeing in shared videos.
A 40kWH, 60kWH and 100kWH model could be a reality. There was even talk, at one point, about a FWD model, to offer options and lower cost and lifestyles. In my case the upper end 60kWH or more model with longer range would fit my lifestyle. But it will be interesting to realize the bonus charging of Never Charge, in my SW location, where only a smaller say... 40 kWH model should be more than enough for daily needs.
It should start coming together in 2020 as engineering and verifications are completed, with a prototype.
I also find meaningful answers on the Wefunder site under Ask a Question....
But the forum is surely a depository to place your needs and thoughts. And their are lots of EV owners on the forum sharing their knowledge and experiences. Well... at least a learning-curve for me.
I am sorry to put a damper on the mileage per charge here, but some of us older retired folks really want to still get up at 6AM while traveling, have that early morning breakfast, with a coffee to go, jump out on the road and drive till we find that sweet spot on the map for a proper lunch, then travel some more till we get to our destination Marion, Best Western or wherever. Once checked in and refreshed, going out for an evening meal, then returning to our rooms to get a decent night of sleep, before starting out fresh the next morning. I prefer US Highways over Interstates whenever possible unless I am in a hurry to get to a funeral, or meet some silly deadline because someone is expecting me to be somewhere on a timeline and I was just taking to much time enjoying the drive and scenery. Sure, I can drive from KANSAS City, Kansas to San Diego, non-stop in just under 24 hours without speeding, but as I am retired now, I really enjoy taking the Scenic by-ways on US Highways and even taking photos, eating at different diners, etc. making my trip these days now a 4 day drive, and sleeping when it is dark outside.
I am not sure this helps your anxiety but I have been reading ( all to be confirmed in the coming year) Aptera could be available in various range battery packs with 60 kWh could be the most popular, so with solar charging and plug in charging using the many charging stations listed on share charging sites, life should be easier and hopefully more stations will become available. Also you can find hotels that are “charge- friendly” via i.e., http://www.chargehotels.com/
I suppose you can read or call ahead regarding level 1 or 2 charging? It will all be new for me too but plenty of time to learn and have other EV’ers chime in with their experiences
I lived for 62years in what I considered a “diner state“... So who knows...like many diners have removed their old table juke box maybe charging stations will be needed to meet the future EV craze????
Remember the old drive up, order and “be served” in parking spots/ carports for comfort food locations? I believe Sonic could be considered one, these days........They all would lend themselves to quick charge too!
Too bad Drive In Theaters did not survive !
Imagine Get Entertained and Get Charged! I only know one in PA that is still around.
Wouldn’t it be nice, if like Harley has, approved hotels/motels that honor their H-D cards that are associated so that they honor their card and give % discounts On rooms and such. some kind of an affiliation with a group of like Best Westerns, Mario’s, or whatever. Having a part on the Forum or Aptera.us where you could find or see everyplace to stay while you were driving cross country. I just bought a house less than 8 months ago, and am adjusting to paying a mortgag, insurance, doing various projects, and having to actually pay someone else in some things because I don’t know how to do those kind of things...like my soft water system for the house and needing an extra hand sometimes for larger projects that I can do. Bought a new Harley Low Rider, 2019 year, last year only to discover that I have a balance issue and that it is a permanent one so I cannot ride my new bike. One year later, this month and I still have 9 miles on the odometer. It had 4 miles on it when it was on the showroom floor. I only put 1 mile on the bike...the other 4 were from the dealer trailering it back and forth from the dealership while installing things like the crash bar, windshield, etc. It goes back to the dealers at the end of this month...enough of paying for something that I cannot use.
Life is not always kind...but 🤔an Aptera will surely keep you safer than a motorcycle?!
Absolutely true! I am so excited...
