If EVER I have seen a vehicle begging for more bright colors, this is it. I did a little poor photoshop work, they look great.
But, the jump in price? Doesn't it have to be painted anyway? I do see it if its only one. The Pearl paint probably costs more, so add some for that if necessary. I'm not saying any color should be an option, but I saw a pearl yellow/orange (I have some color vision issues) Toyota Supra. Geez, would this car look great with that. Does any other Car company has to kahunas to make a pearl Green. Go to the Mall. It is a Sea of black, white, red, and gray. My current car (veloster) color is some shade between orange/yellow. In that Mall, guess what. There is 1 yellow car out there most of the time. I don't need a honk to find it.
On top of that, allow a few schemes even more creative. Maybe have a contest of user submitted Designs. Obviously, charge more for that.
Hi
Custom colors are in the options which you work out with Aptera when you reservation comes up to build. Same if you need a custom interiors
The Aptera body is Vinyl Wrap and not painted
I kind of like Henry Fords words "You can get it in any color you like as long as it's black"
🤣
Since Solar collectors are affixed to the TOP HALF of the body shell it is probably best to avoid covering the Solar Collectors with body wrap. So, am I correct in thinking that only the lower half of the body-shell can be color wrapped?😉
That seems to be a pretty good assessment.
@vulcanclassicrider Yup.
@junk Aptera isn't painted - the composite shell is integrally white and the solar top panels are black. The colors they are offering are wraps - and custom colors are available at additional cost.
This is a sample of the resin filled sandwich composite core that is covered with the vinyl wrap:
I too have colour vision issues but I love orange so would go for some variant on this.
Also updated this image for another post...I think it's green XD LOL
Brighter colours seem like a really good contrast.
People have suggested that a Wrap may be used to get more than the original 3 color schemes. But, a wrap seems to have about a 5 year life, and that may be if your lucky. Also, you want to be letting it sit outside for charging. The UV would probably not be good for the wrap. So, its not an option I would want. My current car is 10 yrs old, and the paint still looks great. I would like a wrap on the nose to protect from debris hitting it.
I dont know how they get the color. Is it added to the composite? IF so, seems pretty easy. Same if its painted. Anyone Not guessing ? But according to the image above, they had to get some color on it in some way.
I really like the Pearl Yellow I saw. Peral green. Hell, Peral almost any color.
First I would say that no matter where you park it or what color finish you choose you will not have any trouble finding your Aptera. Just look for the crowd of people standing around a single vehicle. Second, as I understand it, the finish will be a wrap rather than a paint job. So you could order just about anything, even a chrome finish, and Aptera should be able to accommodate your request. So the extra fee for special order materials is not really that bad.
It is a vinyl wrap like 3M’s product but I have read a confirmation what will be used in production.
But if that....should be more like ten years, With care who knows?how long.
I used a 3M clear wrap over a painted surface, which I used for my interstate road driving to protect from debris. That old substrate held up very well for me over eleven years ,driving a minimum of five days a week and 100 mikes a day:
But not the same product, which I trust would have improved over the decades
