A paradigm shift is hard to believe, hard to understand at first, then it's "Of course!" That was my reaction when I first saw the prototype 12 years ago. And I had paid $240 to Rocky Mountain Institute (think tank) to access their blueprint for a maximum efficient vehicle design, years earlier. I am a dreamer (future oriented) philosopher and it still took me a few minutes to comprehend.
We can't prove something that will happen in the future - especially now, considering the impact of Covid-19. However, this first vehicle is far ahead of the one Tesla introduced, when they first started giving demo rides and had to drop in a new transmission after every one. Aptera has already taken in more than 5000 preorders, which is more than double the number of Roadsters that Tesla sold in 4 years. Also the Aptera Wefunder has been way over subscribed. Every indication is that this is going to be a success.
I am very much looking forward to Aptera becoming a reality soon! I am a bit concerned that there was so much still up in the air at the recent Q&A and yet there is an expectation of a full production run in less than a year. There are a lot of open questions still going on, many undecided final design decisions, still trying to solidify parts and other major partners, looking for another manufacturing facility, etc. I am not completely counting on it actually being produced in 2021, though look forward to that being the case if it happens. However, I hope they do not rush just to meet a promised schedule. I would rather this be done right than be done quick. It makes me a little concerned to be in the initial "guineau pig" group given how many significant things still need to be completed in a relatively short amount of projected time by a small team. It is "cool" to be the first kid on the block with the flashiest new toy, though perhaps a production round a year+ later will have initial glitches and improvements worked out after guineau pig early adopters provide real world testing and experience. Lots to think about. Following along with factual status updates over the coming year should be informative.
Scott, check out the Rivian forums. Billions in backing, years of development, a full factory in Normal, Illinois. Production is supposed to start in June, and there is a TON of stuff they still need to do.
I'm in the fortunate position that I can afford this as a 'cool toy'. I do expect to be a guinea pig, and I'm okay with that. 😁
Have they stated "delivery by Q4 2021" or "production begins Q4 2021" for the 600 Paradigm models? No EV manufacturer has yet met their announced production dates so I think it's disingenuous to hold Aptera to theirs.
I wish them well and will be more than happy if they reach my reservation number in 2024.
Kerbe, I missed where the "600" amount comes from, when the Paradigms were still on the page it stated, 220 Paradigm models and 110 Paradigm+ models. Perhaps 600 is the estimated total 1st round of production, so those 330 and 270 custom I guess.
@Ozman Originally they said 600 Paradigm, followed by 300 Paradigm+ (with no mention of custom orders being available). That may have changed by Launch Day...
My country is undergoing (after being one of the most rich oil country producers in the world) throughout a severe fuel scarcity, induced by shady interests. Getting an electric vehicle would be a life-saving deal, as we have plenty of sun the whole year. A cloudy day is a blessing, indeed. Once the country has been freed, I just dream the day one of this vehicles can openly be driven there. That's why I decided to join to the forum.

My Magic 8 Ball says, "Outlook Good". What else do you need? ;-)
