The only existing prototypes were built about a decade ago in the past by the old liquidated version of Aptera Motors. They were diesel & hybrid versions of the same general aerodynamic shape, but quite different in details and performance. Wikipedia has a few good articles on the history of the company and their cars, old and new, with lots of links to detailed articles. The old ones were called the Aptera 2 series, and Wikipedia calls the new one the Aptera 3 to distinguish it from the older designs.
They are building the molds and forms and completing the detailed electrical design now for the new long range EV, the Aptera 3. You can follow along on their progress under the Updates button on their Wefunder website, here: https://wefunder.com/aptera. Sign up to get email notifications of new updates.
Harry gave you all the details you will need to get up to speed.
I did get a ride in the 2e version when it came through at a roadshow in Princeton NJ ~2009(?). Back then they were only going to start sales in nearby Southern California, then branch out. Living in NJ at the time I could only follow their progress but not make a deposit on one. They plan global roll out with the “Aptera 3”, although not sure that will be final model name.
I was impressed back then but this new one should be light years ahead!
Development Aptera 3 vehicles are due this summer (🤞) and if all goes well...Deposits could be taken too for later production . Their website aptera.us has the original plan. I hope the unforeseen pandemic does not impact those plans
