Till we see the actual performance specs of finalized design two and three wheel drive test models, I suspect the efficiency percent hit is going to stay at the vague “some“ stated by company folks so far.
The particulars of your commute will determine the benefit you might garner from AWD versus FWD. For instance, mine is 35 miles either way, almost entirely on open 50 to 70 mph highways. Generally temperate, if often wet driving conditions. FWD is a no brainer for me. Even the lesser acceleration is still twice as quick as my current ride.
Line 327* of Aptera's FAQ Spreadsheet now states "a few %". That sheet is searchable with "Ctrl+F" (for "Find"), or for Mac it's cmnd+F.
As for daily commute benefit, consider that wet-road traffic often still goes the same speed as dry. If your commute involves accelerating to merge on an uphill freeway onramp, or a corner like from a stop-sign into or across non-stopping traffic, then AWD will allow better acceleration.
However note that even the FWD has about 10% more front weight bias than most FWD cars AND it has independent traction control every 2.25" of tread movement on each drive wheel, allowing full use of all available grip, unlike a traditional differential which will just spin one wheel.
If your Search 🔎 in this forum you may read:
Range hit TBC...
AWD would help in snowy and possibly primitive road ( Rain+ mud) “ situations
I hope the AWD torque vectiring would be a + 🤨
Do you need 0-60 mph in 3.5 secs AWD?
5.5 sec, for the FWD exceeds many sporty ICE vehicles!
Beating Teslas off the line at the light?
