A question or suggestion... Folks have wondered about avoiding smallish road obstacles/potholes with the rear wheel, and I've wondered about sideways translation for higher speed lane changes, as well as extra tight low speed turns. _If_ the rear wheel will also steer then we have some awesome options:
1) Ignoring the crazy Elphae "spin around the car's center" demos (usually done on snow, so the tires don't get ruined within minutes ☺️) three wheel steering could give Aptera a tighter turn radius (without tire skidding). Here the rear wheel steers opposite the front wheels.
2) "crab" style lane change - here the rear wheel steers in the same direction as the front.
The above could both be programmed into steering electronics (slight turns - or at higher speeds - wheels steer inline to effect a crab-like slide, but for low speed big turns front and back wheels steer opposite) so the driver doesn't have to know anything. BUT, here's also a cool object avoidance option:
3) Hit a button on the console and the rear wheel does a momentary "fishtail" so it moves in behind (either the left or the right) front wheel. Calibrate this so it is safe at any speed, and make it active while the button is held, and we have a mid-lane obstruction/pothole avoidance option.
