Hi. So i placed the order despite having the disadvantage of the UK‘ slack of sunshine and the knowledge that‘ll likely be quite a long time after the US before Europe gets their Aptera i wanted to ask a question regarding the design.
I’m not sure how prevalent they are in the US but here in the UK there are speed bumps everywhere. With a normal 4 wheel car (EV or ICE) they aren’t much of a challenge but the fact is, judging by the footage and pictures of the Aptera, the clearance and the length of the fairing of the rear wheel surround in particular will have to altered or it’ll just dig in on the first speed bump it encounters and be ripped off.
One could argue that ordering the off-road option should solve that. But I feel even with no additional options the car should be able to cope with traffic calming solutions no matter which country it drives.
Now you can dream....
Plenty of speed bumps here!
I have to travel some primitive roads too so my order includes an off road package and even AWD.
Hey I never drove on my in own when working in the UK ( you are all safer filor that😉) but I can picture you dealing with circling the famous Swindon Roundabout in an Aptera
As a Left Wheel Drive American....going around the roundabouts added gray to my hair!
Cheers!
I very strongly doubt that speedbumps will be a clearance issue at all. It has 3/4" more clearance* than my 4.25" Fiat 500e airdam, & that clears even the worst of my really bad local speedbumps.
To assure yourself, you could measure your worst local speedbumps with a long straightedge, & in the unlikely event they're over 5" then check their ramp angle.
