I'd like to see the silver option come with a black nose cone and black rear wheel boot cover. This would make it easier to have some continuity if a person uses a semi transparent skin to apply to the white surface at a later date.
@Len Thanks for letting me know that they've reached out to you and provided some composition options after the fact.
I just placed my order for the 400 mile silver version with full solar panels. I'm stoked to see this vehicle come to life in the 2022 ( pandemic not withholding : - )
The vehicle color is certainly a personal preference, but does anyone else find it odd that all three regular options are a matte finish. It's not as obvious of the silver and white, but I believe they are still matte. Most vehicles these days are high gloss.
I painted my old 1980 Toyota 4x4 truck "leather brown" ( with a paint roller ) to have it blend in to the landscape since it's a hunting vehicle. It's actually a pretty impressive finish if you're looking for a lecture that blends.
Thant said, I'm not sure if the flat finish will lend itself to increased aerodynamics at highway speeds on the Aptera. I noticed the solar panels may have a raised texture finish as well that may disrupt surface tension much the same as an airplane wing or even a golf ball with its many divits.
There's a lot of aerospace technology in the Aptera, along with a crew of engineers that will undoubtedly test every aspect of the car's drag coefficient right down to the paint finish. Exciting times!
I agree that it's odd the Aptera is displayed in flat finish but then again, other times the military paints their aircraft in flat finish too. Maybe there's some positive gains here we don't know about and we're all just use to seeing the "Henry Ford finish of you can have any colour you want, as long as it's FLAT black"
Just a guess but I would think that gloss vinyl wrap would be more susceptible to visable scratches when installing hence the extra cost to upgrade to an alternative color.
Actually I never owned a vehicle in matte as it was an upgrade, but YES it may not “speak” to all and will have to talk to Aptera about the custom color “which I assume“ include gloss finishes. They said in the coming months they can start discussing that.
info@aptera.us They will get back to you.Just save that email
We all have time😉
I bet you had chosen white and now want the matt black? (Exactly what I did :)
🤣 Actually I have to stay with white, in my mind, because of my desert environment. But matte black is elegant! Nice monotone choice at extra cost!

They said to contact them once into production to discuss any custom possibilities
Since I don’t expect mine until 2022 I hope to see a real life Aptera by fall 2021(?) ... pandemic not withholding ...to make any adjustments

Sure
You know the body shell is vinyl wrap Right?
I suppose Clear 3M film on other colored areas might be a owners option
I have only used that on my painted car body to protect from road debris.
The bumper and half nose and rocker panels hascthe film on it
It dissappears This was after ten years / 160,000 miles( mostly Interstate driving and east coast winters. Vehicle was garage kept overnight

Have no fear they will not make anything unless it matches your specs and you confirm you still want it.
