Think about the use of solar glass.
All window surfaces, front back and side windows can be used as solar surface.
The maximum solar area of 3 square meters can be extended.
The rear window remains for a bright interior.

Should this or something like it become available, the cells used by Aptera will be easy to replace. They have anticipated repair or replacement with the original design.

Yes, pleas for rear hatch.
The existing hatch's opaque cells are much more efficient, & with a rearview camera there's no need for it to be transparent.
As nice as transparent solar cells could be, are you really suggesting 2.1% efficient cells for this vehicle? Aren't the ones Aptera is planning to use somewhere around 15-20% efficient?
Interesting, but this wouldn't be usable on the front windshield of a car, if that's what you are suggesting. It's illegal in most places to have a tinted front windshield, and this "solar window" would be considered tinted because it only has 50% transmission. It may be nice for the rear hatch though, to be able to see through it and still get some solar power. Still, the devil is in the details - e.g. operating temperature range, durability, compatibility with automotive safety glass?
...cost, efficiency, ...
This Aptera "motorcycle" might be allowed a tinted windshield, but as loswa
shows below, the dash catches nearly all the sun hitting the windshield, likely providing more power than a less efficient clear PV.
I'd still like it for my home though!
@kiteboarder the part of the wind shield where light doesn't meet dashboard is also the area where light passes into driver passengers face, a layer of this transparent solar might be helpful as a form of tinting against too much sunlight blinding driver while being something that can charge the screen or phone
Instead of the solar cells on the windshield, the solar cells are on the dashboard 😀
