The simplest thing for Aptera to do would be to avoid adding a data packet security gateway on the implementation of their CAN bus. This would make the Aptera comma.ai compatible. This is a trivial adjustment, even if done much later in their development cycle. The comma community would likely swoop in and quickly implement comma/OP. Done. No additional use of Aptera internal resources and users could add the comma hardware. The recently released comma3 is a windshield-mounted device with 2 front-facing cameras and a fisheye rear-facing camera that can see adjacent lanes and behind the vehicle. One device, leading level 2+ driving. No added Aptera development time. I don’t see a downside here.
