GM did the same thing with the Hummer release. They set a low reservation goal, so achieving it looks like a big success when they “Sold Out!”…Unless you look a little closer. This is a marketing exercise designed to keep the Lyriq in the news cycle and general positive buzz up for longer. Keep in mind that GM has been selling only one BEV (the Bolt/EUV) for almost 5 years now, and the buzz on the Bolt is not looking good for them at the moment. So they will shift focus to the upcoming GMC Hummer and Cadillac Lyriq, which both use their new Ultium batteries. And try the low volume/higher priced route to EV expansion. Notice that they has been no announcement of the BEV Silverado, which would be a rival for the Ford Lightning and Rivian R1T (if it were available).
